I’ve always been proud of the team we have at TRC, and I love that I get to work with such talented, thoughtful, driven people. I’m proud that we’ve been chosen consistently for the GRIT list of innovative research firms, our HITRUST Certification, and especially our long-term client relationships.

I’ve also assumed that TRC’s employees were happy with the environment and opportunities available to them here, and that’s where things get interesting. “Assume” isn’t a word researchers are fond of using.

In my defense, I had reason to believe my assumption. More than half our staff has been with us for at least 10 years (quite a few for 20 or 30). Still, though, this doesn’t prove my assumption.

So, I decided we should participate in the Great Places to Work® survey. This study is conducted by a trusted outside firm that’s been studying corporate culture globally since 1992. The study involves a cultural brief outlining our policies, benefits and so on, and an employee survey which requires a response rate of 85% to be considered valid. Our results were compared to many other participating firms, and tens of thousands of individual employee responses. I’m so pleased and so proud to report that we are now officially certified as a Great Place to Work®!

95% of our employees rated us thus. Of course, I would have liked 100%. But when you consider a typical firm only scores 59% I can’t help but feel proud.

When I look at the underlying scores on ethical behavior, trust and empowerment, it strikes me that these are not just keys to making a great place to work. They also make it possible for us to consistently innovate and deliver the great service our clients have come to expect.

  • 100 percent of TRC employees believe people are treated fairly regardless of their gender, race and sexual orientation.
  • 100 percent believe management is honest and ethical in its business practices.
  • 95 percent feel management makes their expectations clear.
  • 98 percent said that when you join the company you are made to feel welcome.

Rankings are based on employees’ experiences, no matter who they are or what they do.

I hope we can continue to make TRC a great place to work for at least another 35 years!
